Nicolai

Hi, I’m Nicolai 👋

I’m a Software Developer and a chronic tinkerer. I’m driven by the “how”, taking complex systems apart to see what makes them tick, then attempting to build them back better (or at least more interesting).

The Journey

I spent two years studying Applied Mathematics, which gave me a strong foundation in logic, modeling, and analytical thinking.

But I’ve always learned fastest by building. I’ve been programming since I was a kid, and I prefer hands-on experimentation over passive consumption.

I subscribe to the Arch Linux philosophy: If you want it done right, build it yourself - and understand every dependency along the way. (Yes, I use Arch, by the way.)

Current Project: FPV Simulator

I’m currently building a custom FPV drone simulator from the ground up.

  • Engine: Godot 4
  • Language: C#
  • Physics: Jolt Physics Engine (for that sweet, sweet performance)
  • The Challenge: Getting this thing to work 🤣.

What I’m Up To

  • The Blog: Where I document my struggles with Godot physics and Linux hardware passthrough.
  • Tinkering: If it has a circuit board or a compiler, I’ve probably tried to break it.
